Akela Award - Outdoor Challenge - Swimming

Updated: Feb 2, 2022

Swimming is my favourite sport as its in low impact and in the water which is perfect for sunny Singapore. One of the criteria of Akela - Outdoor Challenge is to wade across a stream/river wearing a life vest or swim across the breadth of a swimming pool. Swimming across the breadth of a swimming pool is an easily achievable task as I do that every week during my swimming lesson.

This is a photo of me swimming the length of the swimming pool.

Recently, I attended a Glamping experience at Sarimbun camp. It was in fact my first scout camp! I was enthusiastic to join this camp and experience what camping is like.

One of the activities we did was to wade across the milo pond with a life jacket I was apprehensive at entering looking at the murky waters but it was a fun and new experience which I enjoyed!

Some of my fellow scouts were afraid, I took the lead, pacified and encouraged the younger scouts to try even though I was afraid myself at first. There is always a first to everything. This activity was the highlight for me in the entire camp. Best to wear water shoes if you are headed here next time!
