Akela Award - Helping to Lead

Updated: Mar 29, 2022

Task : Take part in a Cub Scout Pack or Gangshow either on stage or backstage

During the glamping experience at Sarimbun, we had a campfire. This is my first campfire as a scout. I first had a campfire when I was in MOE Kindergarten at my current primary school. I remembered it was an exciting experience, I even had an overnight camp in school then and if I recalled the campfire was assisted probably by the senior sixers and sixers who have now graduated.

During the campfire, the facilitators was asking someone to suggest a dance as part of the gangshow that everyone would know. I gladly volunteered the song Gangnam style and Rick Astley's I'm never gonna give you up. I lead the group in the dance, the boy in the yellow tee is me with my father. It was a very fun night sans the mosquito that was feasting on me.

I learn that its good to step up to give suggestions or be a leader but also learn to listen and give opportunity for others to step up so everyone can feel included in the activities.

I can't wait for campfires to resume and help to lead my own gangshow. Hopefully I can host one as a sixer before I graduate primary school.
