Silver Arrow - Outdoor Scouting - Map & Compass

Task 1: Know at least eight map symbols and be able to find them on the Ordnance Survey or topographical map.

Map Symbols

Recently, we went to MacRitchie reservoir for a walk. The items circled in blue are examples of map symbols that I have identified in the topographical map of MacRitchie reservoir. It is important to learn about the map symbols as it helps us to navigate our way. Different maps have different symbols, make sure to look at the legends in the map to identify the correct landmark.

Task 2: Find two Places of Interest on Google Map

To find places of interest in google map, go https://www.google.com/maps/ and key in the place of interest that you would like to visit.

For example, I typed Gardens by the bay and Singapore Zoo at the search bar in the top left hand corner.

Task 3 : Know the eight point of the compass

We learn the 8 point compass in Math. I have written down all the points of the compass below.
