Silver Arrow - My Scout Family

Task 1: Find out and write about some of the activities that the Scout Section does and about at least two proficiency badges.

My Scout Section

My Scout Section learnt how do craft like folding Paper Origami together at one of the meetings. I taught some of the other cubs to fold an origami heart while some of the other cubs taught me how to fold an origami fish. I enjoy learning new craft and I made some origami heart for my mummy on Mother’s Day with this new craft skill.

Proficiency Badges

I will share on the Responsible Gamer and Communicator Badge

1. Responsible Gamer

Many of us play games, it is important for us to know the different type of game ratings to ensure that the category is appropriate to be played by us. This badge is very relevant to us as it introduces the different ratings of video games, allow us to plan a schedule for gaming and also gives us the opportunity to learn to play a new game. I really enjoyed doing this professional badge as I learnt new things and the plus is I got to learn to play a new video game which I really enjoyed.

The Responsible Gamer badge have 3 tasks.

· Describe the different ratings given to video games and explain why it is important for video games to have a rating.

· Create a personal schedule for gaming responsibly and follow it closely for a month and have a parent sign to certify you are a responsible gamer.

· Learn to play a new video game that is age appropriate and describe the difficulties you encountered in levelling up or the lesson your have learnt through playing the game.

2. Communicator

It is very important for us to know how to communicate as it allow us to ask for help if required. Through the communicate proficiency badge, we are required to show how we able to use different mode of communication devices. Email and Mobile phones are something which is very easy to use and many of us know how to use it. However, I learn about the older ways of communicating like the use of SMS. Now we just use Whatsapp or Telegram, how to make a call without Whatsapp and the different telephony network.

The Communicator badge have these tasks.

· Demonstrate how to use a private and public telephone.

· Know how to make an emergency call.

· Choose how to use certain devices, I chose mobile phone and electronic email.

· Find out about 3G/4G/LTE Network and explain in your own words.

Task 2: Take part in a Group, District, Area or National activity which involves Scouts of Extension Scouts, then write about what you felt about, and learnt from the activity

I took part in the North District End of Year Area camp in November 2021.

Due to Covid19, this camp was conducted online. It was a fun and engaging session. We learn how to do craft like a sock puppet and even plan a hike. I made new friends from other schools too.

Initially I got irritated as the camp started quite late and chaotic on the first day but I do understand that coordinating this online is definitely challenging and remembered the Scout Law, a scout has courage in all difficulties.

When we break out into smaller break out rooms, the younger cubs was not focused in the task and it was very hard for the facilitator who I got to know was one of the cubs from Riverside that has graduated. I took a resolute breath and recalled that as a scout one of my promises is to help other people as such, I decided to help the facilitor calm the younger cubs and delegate out the task in order for us to be able to do the task of the skit. I learn that though there were difficulties at first, instead of being irritated I could help change the situation by embracing the challenge and overcome this difficulty together as a team. I guess because of this, my facilitator nominated for the best camper award and to my surprised, I got to be one of the best camper.
