Covid19 cases have been on the rise due to the Omicron variant in Singapore. We are very fortunate that the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine is made available to children age 5 and above on our beloved sunny island. This entry is my sharing of my vaccination process.
When the registration open for my age group to get the vaccine, my mother registered for my 1st dose of the vaccine prior to the start of the 2022 school term. We were fortunate to get a slot before the school reopen at the vaccination centre near our home.
When we arrived at the vaccination centre, we scanned our TraceTogether token, showed the SMS from MOH indicating the appointment date and time and was asked a series of questions about travel history, covid exposures and medical conditions before my weight was taken. We then proceed to the waiting area where they verified my identity with my ezlink card.

At the vaccination station, I was asked my NRIC number to verify my identity. I was also asked if I am a right or left hander. I am a right hander so the staff suggested giving me the injection on the left hand. The staff showed my mother the vaccine bottle and extract the vaccine into a syringe. She then showed the syringe with the child dosage to my mum to verify. It took less than a minute to inject the needle in my arm. It does not hurt much, just slight pain when the needle goes into my arm and a plaster was put over the injection site. We then waited at the waiting area for 30 minutes observation. I feel fine and did not feel dizzy or ill so we head out to the discharge station when our name/number was called and that was it. My experience with the 2nd dose was similar. I happen to have my 2nd dose appointment at 5.30pm after my scouts meeting on 26 January and my mother shot a photo of me in my scouts uniform.
When I took my 1st dose, I was apprehensive as I thought this was my first injection. My mother reminded me that I have had many injections since I was a baby and there is nothing to be afraid off. She showed me a photo of me taking an injection when I was a baby and a list of vaccination I have had. I did not cry then and I braved both injections now too. Remember not to do any strenuous activities 14 days after the vaccine. Yeay! No P.E. and hydrate well and eat healthy to boost our immunity.
Remember our Scout promise? "On my Honour, I promise that I will do my best
to do my duty to God and the Republic of Singapore " and getting vaccinated is me doing my best for Singapore. If you have not already gotten your vaccine please do not hesitate, let's do our part and get vaccinated and keep ourselves and our love ones safe. Stay safe and keep safe everyone
