Gold Arrow - My Community - Local Charity

Task : Research on a new local or national youth charity and think up of ideas of how you can help them.

I was shocked to initially discover there are people my age who do not have the comfort and luxury most of us have taken for granted, myself guilty as charged. Daily comfort like air-conditioning to keep us cool on a warm day, new clothes to wear when we grew out of our clothes or even to have nice food like truffle fries whenever we want.

I researched about local Singapore charity focusing on youth for this task and chance upon "Circle of Friends". Circle of friends is a non-profit social service organisation on a mission to help troubled teens and at-risk youths create success in life. Circle of Friends aims to provide youths with education and mentoring outside the conventional classroom to equip them with basic skills, self-esteem and confidence. Circle of Friends aims to rehabilitate and encourage youth to complete their education and impart them with qualified skills for future employment.

I think this is where Scouting can plays an important role. Other than my school scout group, I also joined the Keat Hong Community Scout group. Since this is an open community scout group, we could partner with organisation like the Circle of Friends and jointly organise activities to increase self esteem and confidence with the youths. The youths can learn leadership skills, team building skills, communication skills, integrate with others and discover hidden potentials.
