Bronze Arrow Task : Take part in an Area activity and write what about what you felt and what you learnt
Today, I participated in the World Scout Day Event organised by the North and West Areas. This is my first Area level event. I was excited and felt happy seeing other Scouts from other packs in Singapore. As this is my first event, I was initially nervous but felt happy to join other scouts in this event to commemorate World Scout Day. This event is organised using Zoom as we cannot physically meet during Covid.
One of the booth I participated in is "Escaped from the Science Lab". At this booth, I learn about the properties of a magnet, how evaporation works, the heating, chemical and magnetic effects of current. After the introduction to these topics, we had to do a little escape-room like quiz. To escape the room, we had to answer questions based on these topics to get keys to escape the room. Eventually, I was among the first few to escape the room. I enjoyed the session as I like Science.
The 2nd booth I joined was about Knots. We learn about knots such as the Reef knot, Clove-Hitch, Square Lash, Diagonal Lash, Figure-of-8 knot and Figure-of 8 lash and the unique function of these knots. We ended the session with an entertaining Kahoot Quiz. I was very happy to learn about knots and the uses of the knots during this session and to see my fellow scout friends from the different schools.
The 3rd booth I joined was about Flight Simulator. The 3rd booth was quite fun. We learnt about the instruments in the cockpit, the Visual Flight Rule(VFR), Instruments Flight Rule (IFR), what is a circuit and how to fly a plane in Xplane flight simulator. We ended the booth with flying circuits around the airport in Xplane. It was so fun that many of us did not want to leave the Zoom when it ended.
I find that this event is fun due to the many different booths that had been set up and we have a choice to attend based on our interest. Thank you to the North and West Areas for organising this event even when its Covid and keeping the Scouting activities fun and available online. I encourage my pack mates to try this out next year if they can. Happy Scouting friends.
